Hermle - Swiss precision meets Swabian engineering
Maschinenfabrik Berthold Hermle AG, based in Gosheim (Baden-Württemberg), is one of the world's leading manufacturers of CNC milling machines, machining centers and automation systems. With more than 80 years of experience, Hermle focuses on the highest quality, innovative strength and technical excellence - true to the company motto "better milling".
History & company development
The company was founded in 1938 by Berthold Hermle as a screw factory and barrel turnery in Gosheim. Hermle began producing milling machines as early as 1957, and the transition to NC and later CNC-controlled machining centers took place in the 1970s and 1980s. The company went public in 1990.
Hermle product portfolio & technologies
Hermle offers a wide range of high-precision CNC machines and automation solutions:
- C series (Performance Line): Entry-level and mid-range machining centers that already deliver very good accuracy and dynamics.
- High-Performance-Line: Extremely powerful, precise 3- to 5-axis machining centers for complex applications.
- Gantry and special machines: Machines with particularly rigid housings, designed for hard or brittle materials and large-format components.
- Automation solutions: Robot systems such as the RS 2 (GEN2) for integration into automated manufacturing processes.
- Additive manufacturing (MPA): Hermle combines machining with additive technology (MPA = Metal Powder Application) - this technology is offered as a service through its own subsidiaries.
- Digitalization & AI: Hermle relies on artificial intelligence, IoT and sensor-based monitoring to optimize maintenance cycles and reduce downtime.
- Hermle recently introduced the GEN2 generation of its machining centers - with a new, "electric design" and improved service flexibility.
- In the field of automation, Hermle has further developed the RS 2 (GEN2) robot system to better meet the requirements of state-of-the-art, networked production.
- Hermle is investing more in digitalization: AI-supported sensor technology helps to monitor machine statuses in real time and increase efficiency.
Branches & markets
Hermle machines are used in many high-tech industries, for example:
- Medical technology - for complex geometric components with maximum precision
- Optical industry - e.g. for components with the tightest tolerances
- Aerospace - robust machining of lightweight and high-performance components
- Automotive industry & motorsport - applications in mold making, structural parts or for prototypes
Corporate structure & locations
Hermle's headquarters are located in Gosheim. Hermle also operates subsidiaries and sales and service branches worldwide. In Germany and internationally, the company also supports its customers with automation, service and logistics solutions.
Quality, precision & sustainability
Hermle machines are characterized by a very rigid design (e.g. cast iron or mineral beds), wear-free axes and a stable milling process. The company also offers comprehensive services and modern maintenance concepts based on digital condition monitoring (e.g. using AI). The topic of sustainability also plays a major role at Hermle: by using additive processes (MPA) in combination with classic machining, Hermle creates efficient solutions for resource-saving manufacturing.
